![]() Do you really believe the Bible tells you to be frightened by God? I don't think so. Well, you say, doesn't the Bible teach that we ought to fear the Lord? Yes, but the fear it exhorts is not a cowardly, shy, and frightened kind of fear. Faith, with unshaken resolve, is assured it will receive from Him the answer it seeks. In Hebrews 4:16 it says we are to come boldly to God's throne-characterized as “a throne of grace”-for the purpose, “that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Faith is not timid. ![]() The Lord God wants His children to be bold in His presence, respectful, but bold.Īs we see in our text, the love of God works to give us boldness. If God's glory rests in His graciousness to sinners, how could you, with your fear of Him, be a good representative of His loving-kindness? How could you truly be afraid of someone who loves you more than anyone else ever could and who wants the absolute best for you? It's nonsensical. What might be considered reverence may very well be an ungodly fear, a timidity that dishonors the Lord. God does not want you to be timid with Him. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 18 There is no fear in love but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. Amen."Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment because as He is, so are we in this world. That's love." I think that really says it all, don't you?ĭear Father, we thank you for loving us even when we did not deserve it. "God could have said magic words to make the nails fall off the cross, but He didn't. You know that list of answers that children gave to the question, "What is love?" Well, here is one more. The Bible says, "God showed how much he loved us by sending Jesus to die for us, even though we were sinful." Wow! That's real love! God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us even though we did not deserve it. ![]() God not only told us what love is, he showed us. ![]() If I were to ask you to tell me what love is, what would your answer be? (Give time for responses from the children if time permits.) I think if we really want to know what love is, the best place to find the answer is in the Bible. "Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7 "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." -Mary Ann, age 4 ![]()
